Hey Look, It's Trevor-- Wait, Where'd He Go?

Well, Trevor Immelman might still win the Grand Slam, but his hopes of besting Byron Nelson's streak of 11 straight didn't last so long. The Masters champ followed up his first round 78 in Dallas yesterday with a 75 today to miss the cut. By TEN SHOTS. Out of the 154 players who completed the two rounds of the EDS Byron Nelson Championship, Immelman finished 153rd. I haven't seen any clips, but what the heck, was the guy actually wearing his Green Jacket while playing or something?

As reported in the San Diego Union Tribune, Immelman said after the first round, "I felt like I was playing in another man's body." Course before the Masters, Immelman's other stroke play finishes going backwards were T40th, T48th, T65th, MC, MC, MC. I think he just forgot what his actual body feels like.

And for the record, if he doesn't come close to another victory this year, it will totally add weight to the theory I made to my friend Mark during the Masters that Gary Player clearly gave Immelman some secret South African youth potion during their Tuesday practice round.

Never too soon for a cheap shot, eh ? Immelman doesn't take six weeks off to "recover" from a major like a particular superstar - he gets back in the game after being hustled around the country non-stop since the win.

The guy just won his first major - this isn't easy to take in - save the snide remarks. The guy needs a nap, now he has a weekend to get a little rest.

Let him enjoy things instead of telling him he's not Tiger or Byron Nelson.

Believe me, I completely get the challenge of going on the PR circuit like he has the last 10 days and then be expected to be competitive. It's just VERY rare for a Masters champ to perform as badly as he did.

End of the world? Hardly. But for sure he certainly wanted to go out and put up some low numbers to show people he's not a fluke winner. Hopefully he does in the next few months.

Sure nice to have heard from Mrs. Immelman.

I agree - as long as "rare" doesn't mean two years in a row. Last year, Zach Johnson tried to play The Heritage after The Masters (guess he really wanted two scary blazers in his closet at the same time) - he missed the cut and hadn't been put through the same media ringer that Immelman has been through. Johnson didn't miss the cut by the same margin, but he went out nonetheless.

Before that, it was Tiger and Phil for three years - and they disappear for at least a month after a major...win or lose.

All the same - the cheap shot was pretty low. Whatever happened to giving the champion some respect ?

Isn't this the humor filled golf blog?

Good point. Just consider this "A Very Special Episode" of the Fore Right Blog... like the Different Strokes episode where Nancy Reagan guest starred.

And actually Zach Johnson didn't miss the cut at the Heritage last year, he finished in 6th place. Okay, that's the last serious thing I'll write this month, I promise.
